Every day we engage in a miracle which we don’t even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, and the black, curious eyes of a child-our own two eyes. All is a miracle.‖ Thich Nhat Hanh
PRAYER
I hate it when I get sick and when I do get sick it’s usually the flu, sinus congestion or the good old common cold, but there was a Sunday some time ago that I was so sick that even my hair hurt. I called Pastor Russ told him I wouldn’t be into work and that he was on his own for the day.
As I laid in bed I had all of these thoughts running through my head, should I just lay here, should I go to urgent care, or could I hold out until Monday to see my own doctor, I was all befuddled.
I decided that I needed to go to Urgent Care and I hate Urgent Care, for me that was as bad as being sick. As I was dragging myself out of bed, I felt this warmth run through me and I felt better, I didn’t feel great but I felt better. I looked at the clock, it read 8:45, and I knew then that everything was going to be ok. You see when I had talked to Pastor Russ earlier in the morning he said that he would put me on the prayer list and 8:45 was the time everybody at the early service was saying a little prayer for me.
Prayer is just one of the many miracles we receive from God. Prayer is a time when we can talk one on one with God, a time to tell God our deepest secrets, desires, fears, a time to pray for each other.
Martin Luther said ― The fewer the words, the better the prayer. God doesn’t care how we pray. He doesn’t care about fancy words, or complete sentences, and thank goodness, He doesn’t care if we have punctuation in the right places. All He cares about is that we speak to Him from our heart.
God has His own time frame in answering our prayers and there are several times we don’t understand His answer, but He is listening, He is with us, and we know when we hurt, He also hurts, and when the miracle of our prayers are answered, God celebrates with us.
I would like you to prayerfully consider being a part of Burke’s prayer group. It is very simple, if you have e-mail all I need is your e-mail address and when a call comes into the church requesting prayer from the prayer group an e-mail will be sent to you and you pray for that person. If you don’t have e-mail or would rather receive a telephone call with the prayer request, you will be on the prayer chain, where Silvia, or I will call you with the prayer request, and then you will call one other person with that same request.
