Burke Lutheran Church
Preach. Teach. Reach.

During this Christmas season I have been playing repeatedly the song “Mary, Did You Know?” This song has the most beautiful, soothing words, and this year I’m going to be a rebel and not pack the CD away with the other Christmas CD’s, but play it all year long. For me it has too much meaning to play only during Christmas.

Mark Lawry wrote the lyrics in 1984 for a church Christmas play, and Buddy Greene didn’t put the words to music until six years later. It’s hard to believe that something this beautiful took six years to complete, but then I have heard more than once “for those who wait, great things will happen”.

Funny isn’t it “for those who wait, great things will happen,” we just celebrated the birth of tiny baby Jesus and now we are waiting, waiting for Jesus to come again. The day will come when we all will walk hand in hand with Jesus, and oh what a glorious day that will be. We don’t know when that day will happen, but we do know it will, because God promised it will, so we wait. As we wait, we are blessed that God is with us every second of everyday surrounding us with His love.

Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will one day walk on water?
Did you know
That your baby boy will save our sons and daughters?
Did you know
That your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that youve delivered
Will soon deliver you
Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will give sight to a blind man?
Did you know
That your baby boy will calm a storm with his hand?
Did you know
That your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
And when you kiss your little boy
Youve kissed the face of god
Mary, did you know?
The blind will see
The deaf will hear
And the dead will live again
The lame will leap
The dumb will speak
The praises of the lamb
Mary, did you know
That your baby boy is lord of all creation?
Did you know
That your baby boy will one day rules the nations?
Did you know
That your baby boy is heavens perfect lamb?
This sleeping child youre holding
Is the great I am

“For those who wait, great things will happen”.

Happy New Year!
