A couple of weeks ago I rode the Amtrak train from St. Cloud MN to Columbus WI.  I’ve been on the train at Disney World, but this is the first time I had ridden on a “real” train.  I thought it was awesome; the seats recline to almost a sleeping position, they have a car with all kinds of food that you can purchase, and there truly is a conductor type person that goes up and down the aisle shouting out the different stops.

As I sat there looking out of the window, I became very proud of myself, you know the kind of proud where your chest puffs out like “superman”.  The reason being is that believe it or not, I am shy about doing new things like this by myself, and years ago, I would never had gotten on that train without somebody else leading the way, and here I was riding the rail.

I wanted to spend some time with Ms. Izabella and the only way it would work for me to do it at that particular time, was to take the train.  Interesting how when we really want to do something, we will go to great lengths to get the task done, even if it’s uncomfortable for us.

Jesus gives us tasks all the time, and some of them are really easy, but some of them can make us really uncomfortable, like inviting that new neighbor to come to church with you, sitting down and having a conversation with a homeless person, to love God with all our whole heart, or sometimes even to come to church weekly to worship God and spend time with our church family.

In the TV cereal commercial, little Johnny is eating a bowl of cereal and he says to his little brother “try it you’ll like it.”  The little brother tries the cereal and ends up liking it.

That’s the way it is with God.  He leads us into new territory every day, wanting us to step out of our comfort zone, telling us “try it, you’ll like it.”  So the next time God wants you to do something, even if it’s unfamiliar, go ahead “try it” and you know what, you might just like it!
