I was watching the news the night after the Inauguration of President Obama and the Madison broadcaster was interviewing people who were coming off of the plane from being at the Inauguration. They interviewed a 15-year-old girl, a middle-aged lady and Zorba.
Several years ago I had the pleasure of working at the Dean Oregon Clinic with Dr. Zorba Pastor. Dr. Zorba is very talented, a great physician, an author of inspirational books as well as a cookbook, has a radio show and appears on one of the local television channels with medical updates.
One of my fondest memories of Zorba is going to his house for a Christmas party. It was amazing. One room was decorated in the Christian theme, one room was Jewish and yet another room was Buddhist. It was one of the most awesome sights I have ever seen. With Zorba there is no rock left unturned. He keeps himself informed and celebrates all aspects of life whether it’s different beliefs or the swearing into office of a new President, so it wasn’t any surprise for me to see that he had been to the Inauguration.
One thing that Zorba commented on, as well as the other two ladies, is that at the Inauguration, where over 2 million people had gathered, everybody was friendly to each other, people talked with each other, and people cried together. I had heard later that out of the estimated 2 million people there were no arrests.
I wonder what God thought about that day. A day where it didn’t matter what color your skin was, a day where it didn’t matter what church you attended, a day where it didn’t matter what age you were, a day where it didn’t matter what social status you were from, a day where it didn’t matter what nationality you were, a day when it didn’t matter what your financial worth is, a day where everybody liked everybody. I think we all know the answer!
If it can happen for eight hours, why can’t it happen for 10 or 12 or 24 or a week, month, year? Why do we let THINGS stand in our way of happiness and peace with one another? What stands in your way?
