For years the first thing that many people noticed about Burke Lutheran was the neon, lighted cross on our steeple. Driving north of Madison at night on Interstate 90 or Highway 51, they would look to the east and see our cross. For decades pilots flying into the nearby airport used our neon cross as a landmark to help them find their way.

Recently, however, the cross started to lean. Our aging steeple could no long support its weight and we had to take the neon cross down before it fell (nothing worse than getting flattened by a falling cross on your way out of church!) So, our building no longer wears neon.... but that's o.k. because we're SO much more than just a pretty, old building. Our church may not wear neon, but our people do!

There's something different about the Lutherans here at Burke... they're a little odd... but in a very refreshing way. They love to laugh and appreciate the unusual (I think that's why they like me). We're always trying new things. Some of them work and some of them don't. But through our successes and failures, there's a light that shines here among these people ... a light that gives us joy, brings us peace, and guides us on our journey. That light is Jesus.

So, if you're a little odd, if you like to laugh, and if you too are trying to find your way, Burke Lutheran may just be the church you've been looking for.
